Yes Liverpool lost, but that isn’t what’s most upsetting to me. What upsets me is the reaction that the players had in that game, the fact it turned into a mess, and the fact it was all completely unnecessary. You want to be professional players? Then act like it. Patrice Evra? You, sir, are no prefessional and this is why:
So he didn’t shake Evra’s hand. If you had me suspended for 8 games, yeah I’d be pissed enough not to shake your hand too. This is even debating whether or not you want to look at the fact Evra slightly lowered his arm when Suarez came up next; perhaps Luis thought he wasn’t going to shake hands with him either.
That still doesn’t give Evra the right to grab Suarez’ arm and overreact the way he did. There was absolutely no need to do that.
There is also no need to run up the tunnel after Suarez and try to attack him. Thankfully several Liverpool players intervened so he couldn’t, but still. There was NO NEED for Evra to do that.
There was no need to celebrate like that after the goals either, but everyone just overreacts at goal celebrations, right?
Perhaps the most baffling, troubling, and severe thing Patrice Evra did today was he attacked his own player, his own captain, in an effort to get at Suarez. He went for a tackle on Luis and ended up getting Rio Ferdinand. He risked hurting his own teammate just to attack Suarez.
THERE IS NO NEED FOR ATTACKS LIKE THAT.
Who is the disgrace now, Mr. Ferguson?
And yet, everyone is stuck on SUAREZ and the handshake. Look at the rest of the game, that’s all I’m saying. Just look at the rest of the game and think if Luis Suarez is still the one you should be pointing fingers at.
No, he is not an angel that deserves coddling and complete innocence. He’s not. He can be an asshole when he wants to be (biting people, hello). But today? There was absolutely no way in the world he could’ve won with anyone in Old Trafford who wasn’t there for Liverpool. No matter what he does, he will always be in the wrong to them.
He shouldn’t be given a pass on racism. If he did say those things, yes he should be punished. He was. Evra should’ve taken that and gone, but did he? No, he retialiated with his own today.
This match was always going to be a bad one for multiple reasons, but it turned into a grudge match that could’ve been avoided, even for a fixture such as this one.
